Avoidle: The Letter Strategy Game

Avoidle challenges players to score points by carefully selecting words while avoiding a forbidden target word. The game combines vocabulary skills with strategic letter selection for maximum scoring potential.

How to Play Avoidle

Setup

• A random 5-letter avoid word is shown at game start
• Players enter valid English words (minimum 4 letters)
• Words must not match the avoid word

Scoring Mechanics

Each letter in your word earns points based on its rarity:

• Common letters (E, A, T, O, I, N, S, R): 1 point
• Mid-frequency letters (D, L, C, U, M, P, etc.): 2-3 points
• Rare letters (J, Q, X, Z): 5 points

Letter Usage Rules

1. Non-avoid letters can appear up to 3 times in your words
2. If you have letters from the avoid word, you must use them
3. When reusing avoid word letters, maintain their original positions

Game Flow

1. Enter your first word to begin scoring
2. After every 3 words, receive hints about remaining letters
3. Continue until you're forced to use the avoid word
4. Final score is the sum of all valid words played
